In H.S. and my first year of college, it was pretty clear I was going to be a famous poet, or a rock star. To me.

Having filled numerous small notebooks, I transcribed the best into a computer file, which would comprise my first book of poetry.
Nearing completion, I proudly brought my work to Mother, delighting in the pleasure Mother would gain from basically raising a genius.
'Mom, it's almost finished. Would you like to take a peek?
'Oh, Honey, NO.'
It would take some years until I understood Mother was the genius in our family.
